Four previous owners. Two were from the same family who owned it in succession for the last 30 years before 2023. The mileage reading is 5919,9 and is believed to be accurate. The lack of wear and tear on the controls supports this. Before being found, it had been off the road for over 20 years. This is another reason why this is one of the best UK RHD vans we have seen in many years. The underside and structural areas of the body are in excellent unrestored condition and have been recently coated in wax oil to help preserve the van.
Mechanically, the van has been thoroughly checked. Anything that required attention has been restored or replaced. The 1600 twin-port engine runs smoothly and sounds exactly like it should. The original carburettor has recently been replaced with a genuine period-correct VW item. The gearbox and steering are responsive and feel solid. The van starts first time, every time and is a pleasure to drive. The body and paintwork are in excellent condition, as are the chrome trim and hub caps.
The interior is all original, complete with the original cushions and fittings. The original vinyl flooring has been removed and will need to be replaced. This is not a big job. The roof canvas has also been removed and again needs replacing. The old one is included for reference.
These days, it is rare to find an original vehicle in such good condition. With a little work to the interior, this van could easily come up to show standard or simply be used as a great family camper.
