Originally shipped over from California, this classic 1965 split-screen camper is still in amazing condition despite its age.
The upper half of the bodywork still wears its original paint which is wearing exceedingly well for a vehicle that's 58 years old. Whilst it displays some nice patina there are no signs of rust or rot. The lower half of the bodywork has been stripped back to metal and then repainted in VW Titian Red once any areas of corrosion were properly removed and new metal set in. The result is a sympathetic paint job which looks as true to its original condition as possible.
Other recent upgrades include a steering rack conversion, front disc-brake conversion, installation of a rebuilt engine with Weber ICT 34 carburettors along with a genuine VW electronic ignition system, and a complete stainless steel exhaust system. Additionally, all of the seats, cushions and door cards have been reupholstered. All the work was carried out by ourselves to our usual exacting standards.
We have been asked to sell it for its current owner as something else has caught his eye. For a van of this vintage, in such excellent condition, we highly recommend a showroom visit and workshop inspection to see just how good it actually is. This isn't a shiny-looking bus hiding a multitude of sins under the hood, but rather an expertly restored VW original that purrs like a kitten when it takes to the road.
